Any suggestions for back pain sufferers?

I’ve suffered from severe back pain off and on for many years and I’m only 18. I’ve been to the doctor numerous times and every time they take my blood and run tests and x-rays and they try giving me different medications. The last time I went my doctor said he might diagnose me with fibromyalgia, even though the pain is only in my back. I’ve tried so many medications and none of them have helped. It seems to get worse when I’m stressed out or upset and it is only in my back muscles. Does anybody have any suggestions or been through something similar? I’m losing hope that I’ll ever feel normal again. I’m thinking about setting up yet another doctors appointment but maybe it is a waste of money? Please help.

I wonder if you’re under stress in your school life, your home life or your personal life in some way. Stress does unbelievably horrible things to the mind and the body. If you’re under stress, obviously you have to find a way to deal with it and eliminate it.

Another thing to try is exercise — serious exercise to strengthen the back muscles. I found that studying karate was very helpful for a lot of reasons in a lot of ways.

As mentioned above, Tai Chi also is helpful. Karate and Tai Chi both are martial arts. Karate is more strenuous, but if you’re young, you can deal with it.
